Carey Mulligan has been tipped for an Oscar for her recent debut lead film role in An Education, which was released in the UK on 30 October and in which she plays alongside Emma Thompson, Dominic Cooper, Alfred Molina and Peter Sarsgaard. She has been compared to Audrey Hepburn and called "the Sundance It Girl" following the screening at the Sundance Film Festival in January this year. A boarder at Woldingham between 1999-2003, she has admitted to secretly adding three drama schools to the bottom of her UCAS application form, though was accepted by none! Her rapid rise to fame, from landing a small role in the film version of Pride and Prejudice, through to An Education – in which her performance has been described as ‘sparkling’ - has secured her next role, that of Gordon Gekko’s daughter in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street sequel.
